This is significant because it marks the first instance of the ACMA requesting assistance from Australian internet service providers in the battle against unlawful betting. Several platforms, including Aussie Casino Hex and Australia OK Casinos, are being singled out in this initial wave of blocks. Fiona Cameron from the ACMA stressed that the goal is to safeguard Australians, particularly those susceptible to unscrupulous tactics. Many of the websites being blocked entice individuals and then neglect to distribute winnings or deliberately prey on individuals struggling with gambling addiction. The ACMA’s function in combating illicit online wagering has been growing since 2017, and this recent action demonstrates their dedication to reducing harm.
The initiatives led to restricting entry to 279 unlawful wagering platforms and forging 144 collaborations throughout Australia to tackle illicit gaming. Furthermore, the organization facilitated a 95% decline in visits to the leading ten most frequented betting sites, all of which are currently unreachable.
