David Christian, the top executive for SkyCity Entertainment Group’s Australian business, has revealed his departure. He will exit the company in April 2024 following almost twenty years.
Christian’s tenure with SkyCity commenced in 2005 at the Hamilton gaming establishment. His vast background, encompassing directorial positions at numerous lodgings, made him a key contributor. He subsequently supervised the Auckland and Adelaide gaming venues for ten years. Following a short stint as a gaming advisor, he returned to manage several casinos and was designated COO for Australian operations in 2021.
Avril Baynes, presently the head of SkyCity Adelaide, will assume the position of temporary COO. SkyCity’s acting CEO, Callum Mallet, commended Christian’s guidance, especially in steering the Adelaide operations through difficult periods.
SkyCitys head honcho, Julian Cook, commended Christian for his commitment and strong work ethic during his tenure at the organization.
Christian’s exit coincides with a series of leadership transitions within SkyCity. CEO Michael Ahearne surprised everyone by announcing his departure in October, despite earlier speculation of a March exit. Furthermore, just last month, they appointed Andrew McPherson as their new technology lead, officially holding the title of Chief Information Officer.
