888 Africa Acquires BetLion to Expand Footprint in African Market

888 Africa Obtains BetLion, Broadening its Reach in the African Market

A partnership between 888 Holdings and an autonomous executive group, 888 Africa, has declared the purchase of BetLion, a leading contender in the Kenyan and Zambian gaming sectors. Founded in 2019, BetLion boasts a clientele of over 3 million registered users. This tactical maneuver emphasizes 888 Africa’s dedication to strengthening its position in the rapidly expanding African online gaming industry.

Initiated in March 2022, 888 Africa utilizes the well-known 888 wagering and gaming brand to aim for growth across the African continent. Presently, 888 serves players in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia through its 888bet platform.

The acquisition will see BetLion’s Nairobi central office act as a secondary core for 888 Africa, supplementing its current center in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. BetLion’s proficiency in providing a premium, low-data mobile gaming and sports wagering encounter, particularly crafted for the African market, makes this acquisition especially advantageous. The company possesses licenses in Kenya, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This purchase brings significant resources to 888 Africa, including a proficient local team and a permit for the DRC, further reinforcing 888’s expansion plan and customer base.

Robert Chirchir, Chief Executive of BetLion, conveyed his excitement, remarking that “888 Africa is an organization with ambitious objectives for the African continent.”

Excitement was palpable about joining forces on this venture, providing the company’s growth with their superior software, platform, and area-specific permissions.

Christopher Coyne, leading 888Africa, stated that incorporating BetLion is a significant stride toward crafting an unparalleled gaming encounter for their African patrons. He believes BetLion’s personnel and technology perfectly align with 888’s expansion plan, solidifying their standing as a frontrunner across the continent.

This announcement follows closely on Per Widerström’s assumption of the CEO position at 888.

“We’re enthusiastic about closer collaboration and harnessing our collective capabilities to deliver enhanced experiences for our players.”
