Neil McArthur is relinquishing his position as the head of the UK Gambling Commission.
He has been at the helm for fifteen years and has implemented numerous changes to make gambling more equitable and secure. He is proud of his achievements and believes it is time for a new leader to assume control.
The Gambling Commission is presently searching for a new Chief Executive Officer. In the interim, Sarah Gardner and Sally Jones will be managing the organization.
The UK Gaming Commission faced scrutiny last week due to the downfall of a football index. This so-called “football stock market” declared modifications to its dividend system on Monday (March 8th) and then went into administration on Friday. The Gaming Commission subsequently revoked the operator’s remote gambling permit. However, the commission did not suggest that MacArthur’s departure was linked to these occurrences.
The National Audit Office also censured the regulatory body, which in a 2020 report stated it lacked sufficient resources to fulfill its duties.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to express gratitude to Neil for his commitment and service to the Gaming Commission over a considerable period,” said Bill Moyes, Chair of the Commission. “We have accomplished a great deal during his tenure, and Neil can be proud of the advancement the organization has made during his time as Chief Executive.”
Gardener joined the Gaming Commission in 2009 as Executive Director and was elevated to Deputy Chief Executive in June 2020. Jones joined the Gaming Commission in October 2020 from the education non-profit Ambitious Futures.
