Pennsylvania Penalizes Operators for Underage VGT Gambling

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) levied a fine of $45,000 (£36,716/€42,307) on Pilot Travel Centers for allowing underage gambling at one of its video gaming terminal (VGT) locations in the state.

The underage gambling violation was discovered at a licensed truck stop in the Smithton region of Pennsylvania. Pilot Travel Centers was also penalized for not having a certified employee on duty.

Following negotiations between the PGCB’s Enforcement Counsel and Pilot Travel Centers, both parties agreed to the $45,000 financial penalty.

In other news, four adults were added to Pennsylvania’s involuntary exclusion list for leaving children unsupervised while gambling.

One female gambler left three children (ages 10, 14, and 15) in a running vehicle in the parking lot of Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course. The woman gambled for two hours and two minutes inside the Pennsylvania venue while the children were unattended.

Another female customer left a minor unattended twice at two different casinos. A 10-year-old child was left in a car near the parking lot of Rivers Casino Philadelphia for 22 minutes.

A young one was abandoned in a gambling hall after a car crash. The young one was in a car that smashed into another vehicle and then left the car and entered the gambling hall.

In a separate event, two young ones, ages 11 and 12, were left alone in a vehicle in the parking area of Live! Casino Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. The young ones were unsupervised for 25 minutes while a patron went inside the gambling hall to pick up promotional gifts.

A male bettor was prohibited from Live! Casino Philadelphia in Pennsylvania for abandoning his three-year-old and seven-year-old children in a running vehicle. The seven-year-old child left the vehicle and was found wandering in the garage, while the younger child was left alone in the car. The two children were left alone in the car for a total of 24 minutes while the adult gambled in the sportsbook area.

Finally, another male bettor was prohibited from Wind Creek Bethlehem Casino in Pennsylvania for abandoning a five-year-old child alone in a vehicle. The child was left alone in a non-running vehicle for 27 minutes, with the outside temperature being 22 degrees.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board stated, “The Board’s actions serve as a reminder that adults are prohibited from leaving minors unsupervised in casino parking areas or garages, hotels or other locations, as this creates a potentially unsafe and dangerous environment for children.”

“Leaving minors unsupervised at Pennsylvania casinos, in addition to being prohibited from all Pennsylvania casinos, could result in criminal charges against the offending adult.”
